Boats are a medium of transportation that is used to cross water bodies. They can be used by humans for travelling or even for shifting small load/cargos from one place to another. While navy defines submarine as a boat too, there may be many other types included in this definition. One thing to add here is that boats are considered to be the ones, which can be lifted and placed into a larger ship etc.
Boats have been used by humans from a long time now. They are used for covering lesser distance, compared to larger vessels and ships. The first signs of boats are recorded to be as old as 40.000 years. These circumstantial evidences have been found at Australia’s early settlement. But the actual oldest boat was tracked back to 7-10,000 years back. It is Pesse’s canoe. Its engineering is nothing but hollowed trunk and was constructed around 82-7600 BC. It is now a part of a Netherlands Museum.
Boats can further be divided in numerous types. Some of them are canoe, gondolas, sailing boats and motorboats. Boats may be human powered, wind-powered or mechanical. There are various ways in which boats can be moved. Motorboats are the most recent ones that work on a proper mechanism. Unlike his, sail boats used sails and were propelled because of the wind. These days, boats are used in the inland water to move from one end of a city to another. They cut down the time that one may be spending in traffic, if choosing the roadways.
